School boundaries get redrawn periodically. You might buy a house expecting your kids to go to a specific school and but the boundaries are usually redrawn every few years.

In looking at the schools try to judge them on the programs they offer, not things like test scores.

This may sound odd but I live in an area where the schools are done mostly by county and the school district I live in has at least a dozen huge high schools. When I was looking for a house here I had a kid in middle school so I looked at the test scores of the high school which went from really impressive down to below average. In researching this one of the things that I found out was that all the high schools in the school district have nearly identical programs and funding. The differences in the test results were mainly because of the economic demographics of the students and not because of the quality of the high school itself.
