% increase in non-farm payrolls since 02/11

California--5.1%
United States--5.0%
Wisconsin--3.6%
Kentucky--3.1%

In all fairness to the fact that compare KY to CA, The recession in Kentucky after 2009 was not as dramatic as the recession in California and therefore the recovery in California represents the greater climb after a lower trough.

However, the boom years in California brought significantly greater prosperity to the average wage earner in California than Kentucky.

Compare Fresno CA with Louisville KY

median household income in Louisville KY in 2000 was $28,843 and today it’s $33,175

median household income in Fresno CA in 2000 was $32,236 and today it’s $40,533

it should be noted that Fresno is at the bottom of income gains in cities in California and Louisville near the top for cities in Kentucky.

Kentucky has a large portion of its population on federal disability whereas California ranks 48th in terms of precent population on federal disability. Kentucky is typical of Republican strongholds in the united states keeping wages stagnant and a large portion of the population dependent on the government for support.
