CNBC just shared a peak into the process of creating the H1N1 vaccine. They showed a machine inserting 'the special sauce' into eggs (at least 100 at a time with less than a 5 second interval). Those eggs were then moved into an area where the vaccine can develop...yada,yada,yada...
I wonder, is this common, eggs as the incubator for a vaccine? Or is it specific to H1N1?
Several years ago, egg demand in the U.S. was somewhat manipulated with shipments overseas. Will the use of eggs to create the H1N1 vaccine cause another shortage?
