0x: interesting ... I have only the vaguest recollection of the word [potrzebie] -- from Mad magazine

Your recollection is bang on target. Mad is indeed the revered and august journal that rmhj and I were referring to, in oblique terms. For the record, mashugga is "mad" or "crazy" in Yiddish.

On a different matter...

This whole thread raises a lot of questions in my tired and overheated mind. I worked hard on my two prior contributions to this thread, both of which I thought were well above my average in creativity and general fun, but received a grand total of 3 recs. In comparison, many of my other posts this week -- written in haste or in anger -- hit the "Best Of" jackpot. This makes no sense to me. Are we perhaps hitting the Rec button just because we like zingers and in-your-face confrontations? I like recs a lot, and maybe too much -- this I freely admit -- but sometimes I wonder what it really is that I am being rewarded for.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. I'm not going to change who I am or how I write. Please ignore the previous paragraph.

Loren
