1) As if she needs any encouragement. <rolleyes>
2) The shooter in Newtown only used handguns (the long gun [reports conflict whether it was an AR-15-style rifle or a shotgun] was removed, unfired, from his car's trunk after the incident). That makes any new law restricting long guns a "just 'cause we want to" law, not a "'cause of Newtown" law.
3) The guns he used were legally owned by their rightful owner, and no law other than a 100% confiscatory ban-and-seize would have kept them out of the hands of the thief/shooter.
4) Rifles are only used in <1% of all murders nationwide. Every year, clubs/bats/hammers were used to murder more people than rifles were.
5) Homicide rate in 2011 was the lowest on record (since records started being kept in 1960), as was the firearm homicide rate (since records became available in 1975), and the violent crime rate was the lowest since 1970, continuing a decades-long gradual decline in all three categories.
6) Just because Evil Black Rifles scare some people doesn't mean they're bad. Or if so, we should ban the TSA, 'cause who doesn't feel their sphincter tighten when the blue-gloved agents of thou-shalt-not-board-this-plane-until-I-pat-down-your-toddler cast their dead-behind-the-eyes stares in their direction?
