My wife visited Indonesia but concentrated on the Bande Ache tsunami area with Red Cross relief/rebuilding efforts many years after about 90,000 people were killed by the disaster. That's a VERY different region, but the people are friendly. Like Turkey, the various factions in Indonesia are kept largely in check by a strong, largely neutral military. Anything in Bande Ache (at least then) was accomplished with at least tacit acknowledgement by the rebels.3. Singapore. You suggested it, but I've never seen so many ships (largely freighters) in one body of water as that area between Indonesia and Singapore.
