1. If he's late on payment between now and when he refinances he'll be stuck with outrageous interest rates (he doesn't think that will happen because he always pays his cc balance on time--> by check in US mail,which IMO can go wrong!).

You can do a few things to deal with this.

Mail in the payments early as noted by another.

Pay one month ahead assuming the lender does not confuse the payment.

Use Quicken or an on-line bank service to set up automatic payments. Either manually sent you by or something that is pulled each month if the CC company wants to go that route.

I would not depend on the post office but that is not a reason not to do the deal.
