Oscar Gruss's Alper on ECI Telecom 2nd-Qtr Earnings: Comment

Tel Aviv, Aug. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Following are comments by Gilad Alper, an analyst at Oscar Gruss & Son Inc., on ECI Telecom Ltd.'s second-quarter earnings. Israel's largest maker of telecommunications equipment said revenue for the quarter was a less-than-expected $290.2 million and earnings per share was 57 cents, meeting the estimates of five analysts surveyed by Bloomberg: ``It isn't a brilliant report. The market won't react with great excitement. This report talks more about hopes for the future rather than successes of the present. ``Whether the stock will react negatively to the report depends on the conference call. The price is very low right now.

ECI's DCME systems, which expand the capacity of telephone networks, ``simply isn't growing. It has stopped being the dominant part of ECI. One thing people always said about DCME is that it had an amazing gross margins. ``The DCME has reached a transition year: the old products have finished growing and the new generation hasn't come out yet. ``I'm waiting for a report that demonstrates how the marketing of ECI succeeded in selling the products of Tadiran Telecom.'
