1968 was the year that everything broke, cracked, and went mad.Yep. I think that was the turning point. Perhaps the needless deaths of so many young people in Vietnam and assassinations in LA and Memphis, together with rapid social changes, new spending programs and the approaching demise of the gold standard, all combined to a toxic stew.It's hard to imagine that the US government intentionally shot and killed students on US soil, but that actually happened in 1970.I guess it's a wonder there wasn't outright revolution as a result.
