1988 was the year when the pro-Palestinian faction within the Democratic Party finally managed to win convention approval of a plank in the platform that endorsed a Palestinian State. This event came as a seismic shock to the pro-Israeli faction of the Democratic Party. It led immediately to the founding of the National Jewish Democratic Council, a group that would work outside the Party, not within it, to serve as a voice for pro-Israeli Jews.As someone who was raised Jewish, I always found the pro-Israel faction of my faith as the hardest to get along with. They weren't why I consider myself to be an atheist Jew, but they certainly helped. I'm not about to start a Jews for Palestine group, but those folks have rights too and we need to honor their right to exist.Adenovir
