Please help me understand what it is I have now- do I also have stock in Verizon? Will there be no more GTE? I am confused! What a time to begin in the stock market! I was going to sell the stock and pay off debts, but now I think maybe I should hold on until I am a bit more foolish! Thanks.1cat, please don't sell these until you at least educate yourself on how the system works. There are two very good posts to your question and both want you to be able to maximize your "newly found" investments. Someone has already gotten you started so, don't stop now! This was not, money spent out of your pocket so, consider it, money not lost! I now, sounds corny, but at least wait, listen, learn and maybe have a secure future waiting for you at retirement.Think about this, you just made money without even doing anything. You received 1.22 shares of Verizon for every share of GTE and will also receive a small cash dividend for each share, wow! How many people can do that as quickly as you just did?Research all your options before you do anything so, that you'll have enough information to make a good decision and one that you'll be happy with.Congratulations and good luck!Fool on!BLFord
