2% OVER the rate of inflation. even stocks are within that range of after-inflation returns (maybe slightly higher, but not much, and TIPS are backed by the full printing press-capacity of the US treasury unlike stocks).I find myself wishing I had purchased more I-Bonds in 2000 - inflation plus 3.6%. :(
