If apayment is only part of your benefit, an allocable portion of yourafter-tax contributions is generally included in the payment. If youhave pre-1987 after-tax contributions maintained in a separateaccount, a special rule may apply to determine whether the aftertaxcontributions are included in a payment. If maintained in a separate account, pre 1987 after-tax contributions are treated differently. It has been awhile (quite awhile) ago that I used this option in my company's savings plan. At the time, contributions could be withdrawn without penalty.
