My company's 401(k) does not offer an index fund. However, the plan does have an option to pay an annual $150 fee for the right to be able to go "outside" of the funds available thru the 401(k) and choose whatever funds or stock you want to. You must also pay any applicable commissions related to your transactions. Would this option be worth doing? Or, since I am new to investing in the company 401(k)- would it make more sense to wait until I get some money built up so the $150 would be a smaller percentage overall?
