Does anybody else have this problem? My employer sends out reports on 401(k) balances just twice a year, and those reports are three months after the fact. For example, I won't know until April what my balance was on 1-1-2000.

In the past, this wasn't a big deal deal. But since I'm looking towards retirement in the next year, it's becoming a problem. And since I can roll the balance into a self-directed IRA at my age (60), it becomes even more crucial to have up-to-date information.

So, is my situation unusual? Should I "pitch a bitch" with my employer? How current is your 401(k) information?
