I am getting half of my ex's 401(K) from the divorce and need to roll it over. I have no 401(K) of my own and want to put it in an IRA. Can I put it in a ROTH I just opened or must it be in a conventional IRA? This is all brand new to me so I appreciate the help.

Traditional IRA first. Then if you want to pay the tax now, you can convert to a Roth.
