I am about to start my 22nd year with a suburban school district in Texas. I am 51 years old and have no plans to retire anytime soon. Several years ago I started putting money each month into a 403(b) account with VALIC. The value of the account is now about $50,000. Recently I've been reading/hearing discouraging things about this type of account, and I decided that I'd like to move the money to A. G. Edwards where I have my stock account. I filled out the paperwork to transfer the money to an IRA at A. G. Edwards (my broker helped me with this) only to be informed that I can't do that because I still work for the same employer. What can I do with this money? I've called my broker for help twice within the last 3 weeks and he says he's checking into the matter but he hasn't gotten back to me. Should a company like A. G. Edwards have a vehicle for money from a 403(b)? I'm confused and frustrated!
