Reading your post reminds me of a co-worker of mine. Hes about 20 or 21 years my senior and seems to think hes seen it all. Hes also recently filed bankruptcy, and basically has no assets or retirement Whenever I bring up the fact that I am aggressively paying my debt down, with intentions on being debt free(including my mortgage), he AlWAYS has something to say. Its usually something along the lines of "I said the same thing when I was your age, now look at me!" I really want to thank him for his backwards form of encouragement. Everytime I look at him it reaffirms everything I am trying to do. I look at him and think to myself "You better get your act together!!!!"

Stick you your guns and do whats right for you and yours. The heck with everyone else.
