This is the most brain dead thing I've read all week:

http://www.northwestgeorgia.com/local/local_story_235221509....
A screening Wednesday of the first few minutes of the R-rated movie “300” in a Westside Middle School classroom has left more than one parent and some students upset.

...

“My daughter came home from school yesterday distraught, saying her teacher showed her an R-rated movie. I was shocked,” said parent Tina McCurley. “I found out it was the ‘300.’ It was the first time I’d heard of the movie, so I went online (to www.ChristianAnswers.net) to read the reviews. They described it as a pornographic slaughter movie with prolonged scenes of female nudity, sex acts, lesbian and homosexual content.”

...

Schoen said on Thursday that administrators have investigated the incident and confirmed only about a five-minute clip of the movie was shown.

“I watched it with the principal (Stan Stewart). The clip had no profanity, no nudity, no violence,” he said. “It depicts a Spartan boy and the process he went through in attempting to attain manhood. We didn’t find it disturbing and thought it was appropriate to the lesson. There were no battle scenes. The clip starts with a boy as a baby and ends as he enters the army.”

...

“My daughter could not sleep last night, and I’ve heard many others couldn’t either,”

Somehow I doubt this girl was upset. My guess is Tina McCurley hasn't been able to wh0re enough attention by complaining about Harry Potter books turning her children into the devil lately.

I sure hope this was for a film class and not for a history class.

Geez, that parent needs to quit whining. Just because a movie is R-Rated doesn't mean every clip in it is also R-Rated. That's, like, a reductionism fallacy or something.

I remember my high school economics teacher showing us most of the movie "Wall Street." She did, however, stop the tape to fast-forward through a sex scene in the car. Naturally, I had to go rent the movie later to catch up with what I missed.

It was just 5 minutes of flavor to spark their interest in a greek history lesson. Seems like a good idea to me.

I saw both Glory (all of it) and the zapruder film in 8th grade...don't recall anyone complaining about that.

Something tells me she wouldn't have been so upset had they been shown a certain R-rated homo-sado Mel Gibson film.

I enjoyed Glory a week or so ago thanks to Netflix, and my didn't complain about it, either. I had a few problems with Matthew Broderick's attempts at a "Boston" accent, but other than that, it was really excellent especially with Horner's brilliant score.

Actually, I wanted to ask you if you saw it in a non-Dixie school ?

How much you wanna bet that the same people complaining were the ones
who took groups of kids to see Gibson's "Jesus" movie (also rated 'R')?

“My daughter could not sleep last night, and I’ve heard many others couldn’t either,”

I have trouble sleeping when I watch the news.

“My daughter could not sleep last night, and I’ve heard many others couldn’t either,”

This is the only thing in the excerpt that rings true. With an uptight, lying, hysterical, dirbag for a mother, I would be surprised if the poor girl ever got a good night's sleep.

FWIW, my kids (8 and 11) watched the movie Glory this summer. The battle scenes were much milder that the actual carnage of the Cival War and no nightmares were had. I forwarded past the intense surgery scenes. In our home, we don't watch slasher pics or even the cops and robbers shows on network TV which so cheapen life. I'll confess to being a fan of CSI NY and CSI Miami, but I only watch these shows when the kids are not in the room.
