I can't think of any downside to investing in stocks in an IRA. If fact for a frequent trader, an IRA is an advantage because there are no capital gains tax on trading gains.

Almost any broker offers self directed IRAs. Just find one you like and ask for information on self directed IRAs. I use Waterhouse.

I don't understand your 40% tax hit on initial investment.
That is a huge penalty that would be difficult to overcome.
