I totally agree. I'm currently self-employed but may want to become an employee again soon (because in my profession there'd be less of a chance of being audited, and because taxes would be simpler). The possible companies are small companies, that, if it were possible, might be persuaded to let me have a self-directed 401K. It's probably unlikely, though.
