Tmc wonders Now that I've sent my $2000 to a discount broker with Web capabilities for the 1998 tax year...would it be better to align it with a S&P 500 Index fund or hand pick 5-6 stocks?
Tmc with only 2 k to invest I'd invest in 1 or 2 stocks (let's say an $8 AmeriTrade broker fee will give a .8% fee on a $1k investment or a .4 % fee with one $2k investment stock). Breaking down into 2 K into 5 stocks will give you only $400 less broker fee.
............ OR .....
Perhaps just one stock/index fund .. an index follower stock such as a QQQ (the nasdaq 100 index follower STOCK put out by the AMEX exchange or the SPY S&P 500 follower). SPY for more conserative tastes and QQQ for a little adventure. LOL.
