Now that I've sent my $2000 to a discount broker with Web capabilities for the 1998 tax year...would it be better to align it with a S&P 500 Index fund or hand pick 5-6 stocks? Is there some reading you would recommend to educate me in this area? ****** tmcderm, I agree with the other posts and recommend that you invest your first $2000 into either a S&P 500 Index Fund or in AMEX: SPYders. I would also recommend that you do quite a bit of reading and studying before you invest in your first individual stocks. A good place to start is at this site. Try the 13 Steps to Investing Foolishly: http://www.fool.com/School/13Steps/13Steps.htm Also, read the Frequent Asked Questions list on the Dow Investing/Foolish Four message board: http://boards.fool.com/message.asp?id=1030001004657000 Then read the last 6 - 8 weeks of posts at the board. Best of luck to you! messerb |
