Bob, Thanks for your reply to my question. I try to do most of my short term trading in our deferred accounts, e.g. IRAs, Keoghs, so I do not expect much taxable ST gains next year either. On this basis it would appear that it will not make much difference if I take a ST or LT loss this year, specially since the loss will be a lot less than the LT gains.
