The real world, I retired at 56, with just under 1.8 in investment funds. I looked long and hard before I did the deed. Fact, if you can live (well) or to your standard what ever that may be on a 7% return on net assets, you will do just fine. On that return you most likely will never have to dip into principal or other assets, unless you make need funds for that special trip or a major purchase. If you go over 7 LOOK OUT ! If you can live on 5-6 you are very safe. Been there, done that, got the Tee Shirt.
