How things changed when our boys were born. I can't stand the thought of leaving my family behind everyday for 10-11 hours at a time.

When i was growing up, I didn't have the impression that my dad was forced to choose between having a job and having a family. How can it be that we have had decades of growth in GDP, most of our wives have joined the workplace, and yet there is a need for fathers to work longer and longer hours just to maintain a middle-class existence?

Something doesn't compute.
