I opened an Education IRA for my new granddaughter last year. I used Waterhouse, because I had a couple of accounts there. I thought I would do than for ease of trading, if I wanted to do that, but probably will stick with indexes.
My first buy was QQQ. As long as that looks good, I will probably stick with it for the 17 years or so this account will be active.
It was very easy to do.
The problem with Educ IRA is the limit of $500 a year. In 17 years, that won't cover one year of a private college... maybe she'll have to go to old State Univ, just like gramps.
