Excuse me, but the investment performance has just a touch to do with the efficacy of this approach.

Sorry, I took this statement to simply be implied. Of course, if these investments lose year in and year out you will go broke, but my point was intended to be made in a broader concept of 1) portfolio diversification - i.e., you are invensting in more than just high risk stocks and more than the $2000/year mentioned and 2) some of these high-risk stocks will actually perform well (I'm not talking penny stocks here). Sorry if I didn't make this clear.
