I have great respect for Pixy and most of the other regulars who provide information on this board. They have given info on many messages along the line of this one.
One comment that seems to be missing in all the comparisons of traditional versus Roth is the impact the required distribution has on the AGI.
The AGI is increased by the tradional distributions and is in many cases also increased by the level of Social Security to be taxed. This increase in AGI impacts several of the categories of deductions on Schedule A.
I spend nearly 50% of my income on care giving for my wife. The fact that my taxable income is small has no bearing on the fact that the AGI goes up and my deductions go down.
