This sounds like a question Richard Feynman once tackled (though he addressed knowledge in general). His answer was, if I recall, that all things are made up of the same little building blocks, atoms.

If everything about investing were going to be important idea would be that an asset is valuable because of the amount of profit that it will generate during its life. Things like margin of safety or intrinsic value hinge upon understanding this, so that's why I'd put it forth as a more fundamental idea.
