Sounds like you're using a discount broker to handle your investments in your IRA. If you go directly to the Vanguard funds, the cost of investment is $0.00. I would guess that the $25 fee would go to your broker and not the fund. The 0.16% management fee is one of the lowest in the business and one reason a great number of investors use the fund in their portfolio. In this case, I believe that it is the equivalent of the .88% you pay for the JAMRX fund.

Bottom line: it's all a matter of taste/value. I feel that the Vanguard 500 Index fund is a great index fund. Whether it works in an IRA is up to you.
