Hi Pet Lovers:
I have a 5 year old spayed female dog. She's been on 50mg of Phenylpropanolamine tabs, twice a day for about 3 years for bladder control. The Vet. who diagnosed her condition said it was common in spayed females. Her symptoms were "leakage" as she was dozing off, it seemed that when she relaxes & starts to fall asleep she loses the ability to control her bladder (which upsets her more than me, I think).

The Vet. reduced the dosage in Dec.,2000 to 25mg, twice a day. This is not working as well, and since this medication has been found to be dangerous for humans I've asked the Vet.'s receptionist to ask the Dr. if there is an alternate medication, she said there isn't (without asking the Dr.). Do any of you folks know of an alternative medication that would be safer than PHenyl.....? Since it seems to be a hormone imbalance (and Phenyl...is an antihistamine) I would think there would be a synthetic hormone replacement therapy????
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. I've been unable to find the info. on the Internet.
TIA,
Lucy
