"Since the Government did not specifically support slavery and left it to each State to make a choice - " Technically the government DID support slavery in a number of ways both direct and indirect. First of all a constitutional amendment that makes a slave only 3/5's of a free man is a passive endorsement, and secondly legislation that permits slavery in specific states is also an endorsement wouldn't you say? mark |
