I am going to retire in a year and a half. Are treasuries a good investment for someone on a fixed income?

Treasuries are a good investment but you asked the wrong question. The correct question is How do I make sure I don't outlive my money in retirement? Most retirees will live 20-30 years in retirement. The cost of living will most likely double or triple in that time frame. Just check the price of a first class postage stamp. In 1976, it was 11 cents, versus 34 cents today.
