cookc2: Now, when filling in TurboTax married filing jointly, when it asks how much of a rebate we received and I put in $300, our rebate goes up the other assumed $300 we are "owed." I don't think that is correct. Can anyone point me in the correct direction?

It is correct. Since you married in 2001, your taxes should be $600 lower due to the 5% tax rate reduction for the first $12000 of income for filing status MFJ. You already received $300 of that with the "prebate" check. Now you get the benefit of the remaining $300. Enjoy.
