I don't know about other states, but 6 months with no contact with the child constitutes abandonment in PA.
I am posting and emailing so if you decide to answer you can do so in private if you prefer.
I was thinking we could get him on abandonment too. But, it doesn't seem to be that way now. Was your bio-dad on your birth certificate? If he was maybe that made the difference. It seems since this deadbeat was never part of the childs life, they are treating it like he couldn't abandon a child that he had no contact with. I could be way off base, but, that is what I am getting from the lawyer that is working on this for us.
