I'm leaning toward the balanced fund as I think the share value of the GNMA funds will fall if the market turns around.

The thing that may cause the GNMA fund to fall would be rising interest rates. GNMA funds may not be the best place to avoid volatility. CDs. shorter term bonds may be more appropriate, however, you may lose some income.
