A friend of mine is a michanic. He has seen instances of remans with different sized pistons. For instance, one cylinder was rebored larger than the other seven. Is this the experiene your wife had? Because of his experience I rebuilt a Dodge 318 myself. Had a local machine shop bore engine .030 oversize and install new from there except for the crankshaft. It was reground and undersized bearings installed.

Maybe the original poster could talk to mechanic about doing the same thing. Of course the car would be unavailable for a greater amount of time but if that isn't an issue then peace of mind might be worth it. Really it is the route I would go.
