I currently have 20% of my portfolio in bonds, and in 2004 I'll try to boost it to 25%, but I'm 20 years older than you. William Bernstein claims that the best allocation is 25% bonds, because any more than that does very little to reduce the equity portion risk. He presents his arguments for this in his books.
