GE (and Exxon Mobil) are the two largest US corporations. They have excellent credit ratings and are among the bluist of blue chips. They are very well managed companies.

Read the fine print of the notes carefully. If they are backed by the full faith and credit of GE they should be very safe. Possibly AAA. If subordinated in some way, then you need to check their bond rating. Usually you will find it listed in the prospectus for the issue, or in the S&P or Moody's books usually available in the reference department of your local library.

Remember a rating of BBB or better is regarded as investment grade (though some insist on A or AA or better for peace of mind).
