ING Direct currently pays 2% on savings and is FDIC insured. Granted, there is fairly low risk that GE is going to default on it's senior unsecureds, but it's a personal choice as to whether that small risk is worth an additional 0.25%. Also, ING's rate is good for all deposits whereas the highest GE rate only kicks in on deposits above $50K.
