I dunno...stone countertops have been around for at least a century. I doubt they will ever go 'out of style', be they soap stone or marble or limestone or granite. Same with wood...if you get real wood cabinets (e.g. cherry) they'll probably be timeless. It's when people get the faddish stuff like the harvest gold and avocado green (flooring, counters, appliances) of the 70's that they get dated. Real wood and real stone have been in our arsenal of building materials probably since the Roman Empire, if not before.
