I recently replaced a 20+ year old craftsman with a brand new craftsman. Actually the old one was still working (except for the aftermarket outdoor key pad) but I was getting concerned about its useful life, etc., so when I replaced the door I replaced the opener. Both were/are chain drive and both 1/2 HP and I was very happy/am very happy in my decision. The old one lifted a heavy wooden door, the new one lifts a new fiberglass door. IIRC the new opener was a pretty good sale with two remotes, the outdoor keypad, the opener and the track for @150. At my fire department the maintenance man will only use Overhead Door openers. He swears by them. For residential use I couldn't really tell the difference.
