Hi Susan,

The schedule that SS sends you periodically might only have the 'early' retirement age 62 and age 'normal' retirement age 65.5 rates. My sister just retired at about your age and she claimed the year and a half didn't make that big a difference with what she would get. Call your SS office--they can tell you what you would get if you took it now, and then you'd be sure.

Also, start living as frugally as you can right now. Keep a record on paper of all your expenditures, including pocket change, it will help you get a better handle on what you spend.
