Thanks for the tips on where to look. As stated earlier, DW and I do pay the SE takes on the 1099-misc she receives. While the bonus DW receives is not the "best" tax situation, I am very thankful for the bonus. Half of the bonus is given in July, when new residents are getting started. That helped us out tremendously a couple of years ago. The other half of the bonus is given in April, just in time for any unexpected tax burdens. We've not had to worry either year, but I'm sure the SE taxes could catch some of the residents off guard. It sounds to me like the hospital is doing the very best they can for their residents.
