I don't keep any receipts, ever. My wife keeps every receipt she gets, and probably spends a half an hour a week, sorting, cataloging, and filing the damn things. I've never been burned for not having a receipt, and I can think of only one occasion when my wife has benefited by being able to dig out an old receipt. Ok, one time she did benefit greatly by having all the paperwork on a car she no long had - but that was kind of freaky. We do, of course, keep and file tax-related receipts, like for charitable contributions...
