Are you eligible to open a Roth IRA? Perhaps you might consider maxing out a Roth IRA, which is $4,000 ($8,000 if you are married). As long as you make less than $150,000 as a married couple, you can contribute the full amount. Then, once that is maxed out, you might want to contribute to your 401K.
