My son is about to turn 16. He is autistic, but is pretty high functioning. He has Aspergers Syndrome and has a pretty hard time understanding most stuff.
He has been saving money from allowance/birthday/chores/extra jobs to buy some huge game system. He has saved up almost $250. Last night, he handed me the envelope of money he had been saving and said, "Dad, can we give this to the poor people?"
After I had regained my composure, wifey and I sat with him and had to draw him a few pictures to help him understand about giving, saving, investing and spending. He said he understood, but then said, "I still want to give it to the poor people, dad. I don't really need a game system, and some of those people don't even have homes anymore."
I am so proud of him.
