Your friend may have a philosophy of save a lot. (eanr wealth and invest)
Spend a lot (travel and enjoy your earned rewards)
Give a lot (like over half his income to various forms of tax, which may very well be way more than you give in taxes plus charity)
My point is not wether or not your friend is justified, rather my point is high tax, big government leads to less charity.
I've paid more than he has in taxes from my business and personally. Some people are just tight and only think of themselves. Period.
