It's just that they require rather large balance before they start to waive the fee is all...

I just called, and I now understand. They do waive the custodial fee for large balances, and that has been happening. However, there is also a $10 per year fee for their 500 Index fund for balances less than $5000, and that's what I am still paying because I have this fund in a Roth IRA, and I've only been able to contribute to the Roth one year. I hope to be able to make a contribution for last year, so this fee should be going away shortly.
